There are numerous small steps each individual can take to empower and look after their own health. Through the process of becoming in touch with one’s own body and state of wellbeing, a person can then distinguish when they need to see a practitioner such as a Kinesiologist for further aide and what small steps they themselves can take to maintain and care for their own health. This means they are not as dependent on others or healthcare systems (which may at times also fail one). One needs to think of the body as a whole and give consideration to nutrition, sleep, stress management and developing healthy beliefs and attitudes. These factors are explored in more depth below.
WATER
Water is vital for all life on earth and makes up 70% of our bodies. Kinesiologists will muscle test to check dehydration in the body as part of the pre-check, since insufficient water levels will make it difficult to obtain proper biofeedback from the muscles.
Touch for Health recommends drinking approx. 6-8 glasses of water a day and more when one is unwell (not with meals however, as water dilutes digestive enzymes). Water helps flush out toxins, reverses the ageing process, diminishes wrinkles by hydrating the skin and can help one lose weight.
Thirst is not always a good indicator if the body needs water, rather when one feels tired, sluggish, or finds it hard to concentrate, that is a sign that hydration is needed.
CROSS CRAWL MOVEMENTS
Cross Crawl movements are basic to the first breaths of life – with a baby typically being born with the head first and then one shoulder followed by the other – in a typical cross crawl pattern. Crawling is also an important part of infant neurological development and if this stage is missed out on, it can have negative effects on the child later in terms of reading, concentration and other neurologically related developmental milestones.
Cross crawl involves any movements that use the opposite arm and leg. These basic movements are used in Kinesiology to improve activities such are reading, writing, concentration, sports performance and so on.
STRESS RELIEF
Stress is a part of life and can be a positive thing when it gives us the impetus to get things done and meet challenges. However, the flipside of stress is when we feel ‘distressed’ and cannot function effectively. When this carries on for an extended period of time (chronic stress) it will eventually lead someone to becoming unwell.
